  • Thank you to everyone who participated in our 19th symposium!

  • Details (including dates and repertoire) for 2011 will be posted when confirmed.

  • We are trying to plan some special events for our 20th anniversary symposium in 2011. Stay tuned!

Clinician

Dr. Mallory Thompson,
Director of Bands at Northwestern University, will be returning as clinician for this workshop. She brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the teaching of conducting, and is enthusiastic about returning to Bergen County to work with our area conductors.

Sponsor

Music Educators of Bergen County, Inc. has sponsored this event for many years. Our first symposium was held in 1987, and MEBCI began its sponsorship several years later.

Site

The symposium will be held in the air-conditioned music suite at Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan, 140 Central Avenue, Old Tappan, NJ 07675. Click here for directions.
Curt Ebersole, Director of Bands, is the coordinator of this symposium.

From a Former Participant

Dr. John Lynch taught at Monroe-Woodbury High School in Central Valley, NY at the time he attended our symposium. In the time since, he has served as Director of Bands at Emory University, Associate Director of Bands at Northwestern University, Director of Bands at University of Kansas, and is now Director of Bands at the University of Georgia. He has acted as a guest conductor and clinician throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.

"I attended the first conducting symposium at NVOT in 1987 as a new band director - I was very wet behind the ears! The wonderful experience I had with Mallory Thompson and Curt Ebersole changed my life in the discovery of two life-long friends and colleagues. It also set me on a path of professional growth that has led to a masters degree from Eastman, a doctorate from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, college band director positions at Emory and Northwestern Universities, the University of Kansas, and now in my current position at the University of Georgia. I hope this symposium ignites a lifetime of professional growth and satisfaction for you!"

From a New Participant

"I can't tell you how convenient this is for me. I was looking at going out to Colorado or Texas for similar symposiums for twice the price (not including hotel and airfare). This is practically in my backyard and I was dying to find something with Mallory Thompson." Christopher Vitale, Graduate Conducting Student, University of Delaware
